{lemon tea cake}

With the Holidays here, it's always nice to arrive at someone's house with a gift in hand.  It's even better if it's a gift of a yummy treat.  I baked this lemon tea cake with just that in mind.  This recipe is full of lemon zest, lemon juice, lemon simple syrup, and lemon glaze.  Recipe is from Miette's cookbook.

I hope you all have a scrumptious Thanksgiving with the ones you love.  xoxo, jules

{teach back: tissue paper pom poms}

I recently co-hosted a baby shower and made these cute tissues paper pom poms for a low cost.  They're super quick to make and they look absolutely darling coupled with this.  Here's how...

{tools}

What you need:
  1. Tissue paper.  (Large pom pom = long sheets of tissue paper & you will need 10 sheets per pom pom.  Medium pom pom = a bit shorter in length and width compared to the large  & you will need 7-8 sheets.  Small pom pom = shorter in length and width than the medium & you will need 6 sheets.)
  2. Twisty ties
  3. Scissor
  4. Clear/transparent string.  I used my leftover jewelry string.
  5. Detachable clear hooks.

{how to}

Working length-wise, fold the tissue paper in an accordion/fan style.  Make each fold about an inch.

Tie a twist-tie around the middle of the accordion/fan.

Round both ends.

Peel each sheet of tissue away by pulling an even amount to one side and an even amount to the other.  Take the clear string and tie it around the center of the pom pom, cutting it at the desired length you want it hanging.  Attach the string to the detachable hooks and stick stick where you please.  Note: Make sure to stick the correct adhesive side to the wall or else it will take off your paint!  I made that mistake!  ENJOY!

{teach back: contemporary party banner}

How adorable are contemporary party banners?  It's such the rage right now.  :)  Learn how to make one for your next party!!

{tools}

What you need:

  • Pattern paper
  • Paper to create a template
  • Paper hole puncher (I used a 6mm hole)
  • Mini dollies or any other pattern paper
  • Letters
  • Ribbon
  • Ruler, pencil, scissor, glue stick

{how to}

1)  Measure the length of your pattern paper (one side)

2)  On your template paper, mark where 1/2 the length of your pattern paper will be.  For example, the length of my pattern paper is 12 inches.  On my template I mark where 6 inches is.  3)  After that, mark where 1/4 of the total length is (mine is 3 inches).

4)  From your 1/4 point, draw a straight vertical line down.

5)  Draw a line from the top left corner of the paper to your 1/4 point at the bottom of the paper.  Draw a line from the top 1/2 point to your bottom 1/4 point.  6)  Cut out the triangle following the outer lines (don't cut down the center line).  Your template is made!

7)  Using your template, trace triangles/flags on the back of your pattern papers.  Make sure you have enough flag per letter.  You also want to alternate the pattern.

8)  Arrange the flags in the order you want the pattern to be.

9)  Glue a dollie on a flag by applying glue to the center of the doolie

10)  Glue a second dollie on top of the 1st dollie to create dimension.  Repeat on each flag.

11)  Apply a letter on each flag in the order of spelling and pattern.  I purchased letters that had an adhesive backing.

12)  Using your hole punch, punch a hole 1/2 an inch in from the edge of each top corners.

13)  Tread your ribbon through the flags.  You're done!!

PARTY TIME!!!
